Who would have thought we would be talking about finishing taxes and a Winter Weather Advisory on the same day? For those tired of the cold, this is the unfortunate reality of Sunday. A Winter Weather Advisroy is in effect until tonight for Providence and most points north. This has been issued because of the potential for freezing rain and slick roads.
Some of the new data coming in suggests that there will be a decent amount of dry time today. That being said, there will be a chance of showers, drizzle, sleet, or even freezing rain (can we add any more precipitation types?) at times.
Temperatures won’t move a whole lot throughout the day with afternoon temperatures generally in the upper 30s. Chilly winds out of the notheast at 10-20 mph with gust around 30mph will keep wind chills in the 20s for most of the day.
After around 6 or 7PM into the overnight hours, showers will start to increase in frequency.
If temperatuers stay around freezing (which is of special concern in some of the higher elevetions of northwest Rhode Island), rain falling on top of the freezing surfaces could create some slick spots. So while we need to keep an eye on the chance of slick roads for the entire day, I think there is a slightly higher risk tonight.
Unfortuantely, not too much has changed in the forecast. Expect some off/on showers early in the morning around the starting time of the race, then heavier rain (and wind from the east) likely from the late morning into the afternoon.
Have a good weekend and stay warm! -Pete Mangione
