Sleet and some freezing rain are expected late Saturday night and into Sunday evening, and this has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of our area.
Providence County (including the Providence Metro area) and western Kent County are in the Advisory area in Rhode Island. Northern Bristol, Norfolk and Worcester County in Massachusetts are also in the Winter Weather Advisory. Any untreated surfaces could become slick. Please use extra caution while driving and walking on Sunday.
Light freezing rain and/or sleet is expected to begin after midnight tonight.
Especially inland areas could see the wintry precipitation.
Through the day on Sunday, many areas could see sleet mixing with rain, but the roads and other untreated surfaces could become slick in the areas under the Winter Weather Advisory. This will continue through midday and into the afternoon.
Even South County could see a little sleet at times.
The chance for sleet and freezing rain will continue into the evening, but temperatures will be rising Sunday afternoon and any precipitation should change over to a chilly rain in the evening. The chilly rain is expected to continue Sunday night. Some of that rain could become heavy at times on Monday.
