September 1 marks the start of “Meteorological Fall”, which runs through November 30. For those who aren’t ready to give up on summer, the Autumnal Equinox is still 3 weeks away.

Temperatures over the next few months will continue to cool, with average highs dropping from 80 today to near 70 by the end of the month and then to the upper 40s by the end of November. In addition, we’ll continue to lose around 2-3 minutes of daylight per day.

The ocean and bay waters are still very warm, with some great beach days still likely. If you’re at the coast today, highs will reach near 80 with the surf around 3-4 feet.

It’s a perfect stretch to turn off the AC and fans, open up the windows and let the fresh air in. The air tonight will have the feel of fall, with overnight lows dipping into the low to mid-50s. There could even be a few rural spots that fall to the upper 40s by dawn.

Friday looks a lot like today, with seasonable temperatures and abundant sun.
