FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Massachusetts State Police are investigating a deadly pedestrian crash Friday morning that temporarily closed Route 24 North in Fall River.

State police say a 44-year-old man driving a Ford F-250 struck an adult woman around 5:30 a.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her identity is not being released at this time, state police added.

The crash blocked all travel lanes between Route 79 and Industrial Park Road. Cars were diverted off the highway at Exit 8.

The scene was cleared around 8:30 a.m. and the highway reopened.

State police say it’s unclear why the pedestrian was on the highway. The crash remains under investigation.
