LOS ANGELES (WPRI) — The Boston Red Sox received a hero’s welcome Monday night, returning home to a dedicated group of fans cheering them on.

The team returned to Fenway Park around 10 p.m., World Series trophy in hand, as ecstatic fans made efforts to catch a glimpse of the players with their new hardware.

Backed by strong pitching and a quartet of home runs, the Red Sox defeated the Dodgers in Game 5 Sunday night to bring home their fourth title in the past 14 years.

As the team flew back to Boston on Monday, fans continued to stop buy to pick up merchandise and snap a photo of the new championship banner outside the historic stadium.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced Monday that a duckboat parade to celebrate the victory will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
