PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia will make his return to McCoy Stadium Friday night as he works to get back to the bigs.
Pedroia will bat third for the PawSox as they take on the Gwinnett Stripers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
The 35-year-old started the season on the injured list and played only six games with Boston before re-injuring his knee. He batted 2-for-20 in those six games.
Pedroia played five games with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs before he was scratched from the lineup earlier this week due to “minor left knee soreness,” according to the team.
“There are days where I feel great and I can play and all that, there are days where I can’t,” he told reporters on Friday. “We’re getting to a point where there’s more days that I can play than I can’t, and that’s going to build over time.”
Pedroia was limited to 105 games in 2017 and missed all but three games last season due to ongoing knee issues. He began a similar rehab stint in Pawtucket this time last year.
Tickets for Friday night’s game can be purchased on the PawSox website. The first 3,000 fans inside the stadium will receive a PawSox ceramic mug courtesy of Dunkin’.
