WILLIAMSPORT, Penn. (WPRI) — It was a Little League World Series debut that Smithfield will never forget.

The Smithfield All-Stars, winners of the Metro Region, eliminated the Mountain Region champions from Henderson, Nevada, 3-1 in the first U.S. Bracket game Wednesday.

Left-handed pitcher Connor Curtis was a force to be reckoned with, striking out 15 batters and holding Nevada to a single run scored late in the game.

Curtis hit his pitch count more than halfway through the top of the fifth inning, which is when Brayden Castellone stepped in and secured the win.

Smithfield is set to face off against the Southeast Region champions from Nolensville, Tennessee, Friday at 3 p.m. on ESPN.

Back at home, the tight-knit town of Smithfield is bursting with pride.

Numerous restaurants and bars hosted watch parties for the game, including Wing Power, Laura’s Bar and Grill and The Trap North.
