FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman’s appeal of a four-game suspension was denied Tuesday, according to NFL officials.
With the suspension upheld, Edelman will miss the team’s first four games against the Texans, Jaguars, Lions and Dolphins.
Edelman missed the entire 2017-18 season after tearing his ACL in the preseason.
Soon after the suspension was handed down, Edelman issued an apology to fans on his Instagram account.
“I am very sorry – I don’t know what happened,” Edelman wrote. “I’ve taken many, many tests obviously over the course of my career, and nothing like this has every happened. I apologize to the Kraft family, my coaches, teammates and fans. As this matter is being appealed, I can’t say anymore but no matter what, I will be ready to play and pursue another championship with our team and for Patriots fans around the world.”
Edelman will be eligible to return to the Patriots’ active roster on Oct. 1, enabling him to make his 2018 debut Oct. 4 against Indianapolis.
