NEWPORT, RI (WPRI) — This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Patrick Maybach.
The Salve Regina graduate student became the Seahawks All-Time Strikeout leader while continuing to sport the best ERA in school history. A three-time All-Commonwealth Coast Conference pick, Maybach is three wins away from becoming the school’s winningest pitcher.
“He brings a level of competitiveness with everything he does,” said Seahawk Head Coach Eric Cirella. “And that’s why your able to see him succeed and get better and really shine on the biggest stage.”
Maybach’s success not limited to the Seahawks. He earned an All-Star spot in the New York Collegiate Baseball League, was unscored upon in a stint in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League and became the first Salve player to pitch in the NECBL for the Newport Gulls. Those experiences could open the door to a pro baseball opportunity.
“Yes, there’s a possibility, which is an awesome thing, for me personally because I love playing baseball,” Maybach said. “I can’t really control the future or the Draft, so it’s just understanding that if I work every day, the chips will fall how they fall, and when it comes to June and your names called, that’s awesome. And if not, at least during my career I put the work in and I could say I went out putting 100% and trying to be the best I could be and that’s more important to me. But at the same time, I’d love to play at the next level.”
