Hometown Hero: Madison D’Ambra

Hometown Hero

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI) — This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Madison D’Ambra.

The Bay View senior scored her 1,000th point and earned 2nd Team All-State honors in her final season on the court, leading the Bengals to a 16-7 record, the Division I Quarterfinals and a spot in the Open State Tournament.

“You know, on and off the court, she’s always looking to take care of her teammates,” said Bay View Head Basketball Coach Jen Wasson. “She’s a tremendous asset to the school and the program, just being there and carrying herself like a Bay View girl carries herself. Doing the right thing, making the right decisions, helping each other when they need to be helped.”

D’Ambra started playing basketball at an early age, thanks in large part to her Dad, Matt, who earned All-State honors at North Providence and now coaches at Hendricken.

But Basketball is not the sport she will pursue at the next level. Madison will instead row at Syracuse University, a sport she picked up in her freshman year at Bay View.

“It’s a great program, with a great history,” said Head Rowing Coach Brent Basso. “And being able to get from learning the sport, four years ago to here, is amazing. She’s done an excellent job and she should be proud of that.”
