Hometown Hero: Alyssa Worthington

Hometown Hero

WEST WARWICK, RI (WPRI) — This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Alyssa Worthington.

The West Warwick senior became just the fifth Rhode Islander to win three all-around titles at the Midge Palmer Individual Champions Meet. Her 37.625 score and gold medals in the vault, bars, and floor helped the Wizards win the Division II team title.

“She makes it look easy, winning three times, but it isn’t easy,” Wizards head coach Haley Winsor said. “She works so hard working for club gymnastics, as well as high school gymnastics, and she really puts in the time and effort to make it happen.”

Worthington will continue her gymnastics career in college, competing next fall for the University of New Hampshire.

“I’m very excited. When I was very little, I searched that school with my sister, because she was looking at the school,” Worthington recalled. “Ever since then, I said, ‘this is the school.’ It’s very difficult to get a spot on a Division I gymnastics team, so I’m very lucky to have this and I’m looking forward to starting a new team and having a new family.”
