Hometown Hero: Tom Comella

CRANSTONN, R.I. (WPRI) — This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Tom Comella.

The Bishop Hendricken quarterback earned the Super Bowl MVP by running for two scores and catching a touchdown pass, helping his team avenge last season’s Super Bowl loss to LaSalle.

That loss to the Rams, the only game Comella has lost to Rhode Island competition in his two years as a starter.

“He’s tough, he’s scrappy, he’s gamesy, he watches film, he studies,” said Hawks head coach Keith Croft. “He’s everything you want in a quarterback and he’s only going to get better.”

Comella’s leadership will be especially important next Fall with the Hawks set to lose a large group of seniors on both sides of the ball.

“Lots of new faces on the team next year,” Comella said. “Just happy for this one, and hopefully we can get it done next year as well.”
