PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI) — This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Lily Sarnowski.
The Moses Brown senior spent four weeks training and competing against the best at US Rowing’s Olympic Development Program. Sarnowski brought home Doubles gold and earned 3rd place finishes in the Singles and Quad competitions.
“It was amazing to see how motivated the entire group was,” Sarnowski said. “To always learn more and go out every day excited to work hard and put our best foot forward. And even when it got hard or tiring, Florida was hot and humid, we would all stick together and laugh it off, the heat and how hard the workout was. It was really amazing to get so close to that group of girls.”
Sarnowski has a busy Fall ahead racing with her Narragansett Boat Club team and she’s hoping to earn a spot in the Head of the Charles in October. It will also be the season to pick her college home and her success on the water opening a lot of Division I College doors.
“I’ve been talking with coaches for a while and looking at some amazing programs. I’m not only interested in going for the rowing, but I also want to go into Engineering. So, I’m looking at really good Engineering programs, where I can balance my academics and athletics because I’m very excited to learn how student athletes on those programs balance their lives.”
“Rowing on a college team will be huge for her athletic improvement,” said Narragansett Boat Club coach Daniela Roop. “And being exposed again to more racing opportunity, it will be, she will be a while different athlete.”
