PORTSMOUTH, RI (WPRI) — This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Lexi Greffen.

The reigning 1st Team All-Stater leads Portsmouth in points, assists and steals as the Patriots chase a playoff spot in Divison I.

“She primarily leads by example, if you see her work ethic and commitment to the game, that’s what really makes her stand out,” head coach Richard Glover said. “I read something once that said excellence is not a skill but an attitude, and I think Lexi exemplifies that.”

Greffen’s success comes after she’s battled back from two torn ACL’s, one suffered as a 8th grader and another early in her freshman season at St. George’s.

“Definitely a tough road with that,” Greffen said. “Again, I knew what I had to do to get where I was before, PT three times a day, which can be very mentally and physically draining, but I had a lot of support around me. My parents, my friends, definitely my trainers, they were all there getting me where I needed to be, giving me the guidance I needed to get where I am today. It made me a better person and a better player.”

Greffen will continue her basketball career next fall at the University of New Hampshire.
