Hometown Hero: Chris Wright

SMITHFIELD, RI (WPRI) — This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Chris Wright.

The former Cumberland All-Stater earned all-NEC 2nd team honors on the field for Bryant last Spring and he’s picked up where he left off for the Bulldogs. Wright tied for second on the team with 5 home runs and 29 RBI’s, while sporting a .271 average.

“He has a lot more confidence in his ability than he ever had before,” said Bryant Head Coach Steve Owens. “And I think that’s a big part of any athlete’s success, especially if you want to be elite.

Wright is also excelling on the mound, serving as the Bulldogs closer with seven saves and a 1.56 ERA.

“To be honest, I’m a completely different person when I’m playing first base, rather than on the mound,” Wright said. “When I’m on first, I’m kinda goofy. Talk to the guys on first base, try to get to know some people around the country. But when I’m on the mound, it’s all business. I’m locked into everything, I’m not taking anything for granted mentality. I’m going to go out there and get after them.”
