Hometown Hero: Allie Reilly

Sports

This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Allie Reilly.

The URI senior took home a silver medal as part of the U.S. PR3 team at this month’s World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

The team consists of two female and two male rowers with a coxswain and the all the competitors have no use, or at least limited use of one leg, trunk or arms. Multiple surgeries on her hands and feet, qualified Reilly for her place.

“She started here as a walk-on and ended up at the World Championships,” said URI Head Coach Shelagh Donohoe. “I think bringing home any medal at the wold level is huge, it’s huge for Rhode Island, it’s huge for our program.”

The North Kingstown native is hoping to close her Ram career with a 3rd A-10 title, before setting her sights on gold at next year’s World Championships.
