CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — It was a Super Bowl Sunday that Woonsocket running back Emmanuel Gomes won’t soon forget.
Gomes earned MVP honors in the Villa Novan’s 37-13 win over East Greenwich and he did it with his mother watching from above.
Gomes’ mother Rena Fluery died on August 31st after going into cardiac arrest while attending the team’s injury fund game.
Gomes dedicated his senior season to her and shined on the biggest stage, rushing for nearly 200 yards and two touchdowns to earn MVP honors.
