FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — Wide receiver Julian Edelman issued an apology to the Patriots organization and his fans on Friday as he appeals a four-game suspension.
The suspension was handed down Thursday after Edelman reportedly tested positive for performance enhancing substances.
“I am very sorry – I don’t know what happened,” Edelman wrote on Instagram. “I’ve taken many, many tests obviously over the course of my career, and nothing like this has every happened. I apologize to the Kraft family, my coaches, teammates and fans. As this matter is being appealed, I can’t say anymore but no matter what, I will be ready to play and pursue another championship with our team and for Patriots fans around the world.”
It’s unclear at this time what substance showed up on Edelman’s drug test.
Edelman missed the entire 2017-18 season due to an ACL tear and if his suspension is upheld, he would also miss the Patriots’ first four games this fall against the Texans, Jaguars, Lions and Dolphins.
