NEW YORK (WPRI) — The University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team furthered their chances of making the Big Dance by upsetting Virginia Commonwealth on Friday.

The no. 8-seed URI Rams defeated the top-seeded VCU Rams by a score of 75-70 in the Atlantic 10 Tournament quarterfinals at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Jeff Dowtin led URI with 22 points while Tyrese Martin put up 13 and Dana Tate added 12.

The Rams will play next on Saturday, taking on the winner of no. 4-seed St. Bonaventure and no. 5-seed George Mason.
