PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Ed Cooley is sticking with the Friars.
Providence College announced Tuesday that Cooley has agreed to a multi-year contract extension to remain head coach of the men’s basketball team.
The announcement follows multiple reports Monday that Cooley was a front runner to be the new head basketball coach at the University of Michigan.
The college said Tuesday that Cooley had withdrawn his name from consideration for the Wolverines’ head coaching position.
“While it’s very flattering to be considered for other head coaching jobs, after talking with my family I have decided to remain in my hometown of Providence,” Cooley said. “The Friars are my family.”
Details of Cooley’s new contract were not disclosed.
