In the Kitchen: Woon Sock It To Me Dynamite Burger

In the kitchen, GoProvidence.com brings us Luxe Burger Bar manager Jeff Shabo, making the Woon Sock It To Me Dynamite Burger.  This is one of the five finalists in the 8th Annual Build Yor Own Burger Contest.  All finalists are on the menu now and the winner will be chosen on October 20th.

Ingredients:

  • 1- 6 ounce Gold Label Hereford beef patty
  • 1 slice Pepper Jack cheese
  • 1 ounce iceberg lettuce
  • 1 ounce Bermuda onions
  • 1 ounce Jalapeños
  • 2 dill pickles
  • 2 slices ripe tomato
  • 2 ounces horseradish mayo
  • 2 ounces of Dynamite sauce (Woonsocket Style Sloppy Joe)
  • 2 ounces cheesy tots
  • 1 sesame bun

Directions:

  1. Cook Dynamite sauce, see recipe below.
  2. Cook Gold Label Hereford beef to desired temperature
  3. While burger is cooking cut iceberg lettuce
  4. While burger is cooking cut Bermuda onions
  5. While burger is cooking cut jalapeños
  6. While burger is cooking, cut 2 slices of ripe tomato
  7. While burger is cooking cut iceberg lettuce
  8. Once all items are finished cooking, place Gold Label Hereford beef on bottom bun on top of lettuce, Bermuda onions and tomato, top the beef with Pepper Jack cheese, Dynamite sauce, jalapeños, pickles and cheesy tots. Spread the horseradish mayo on the top bun and place top bun on all ingredients.

Dynamite Sauce Recipe:

  • 3 lbs ground beef
  • 3 lbs green bell peppers, diced
  • 3 lbs yellow onions, diced
  • 1.5 lbs red bell peppers, diced
  • 28 oz diced tomatoes (canned)
  • 28 oz tomato sauce (canned)
  • 8 oz tomato paste (canned)
  • Bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Dried oregano & basil, totaling around 1tbsp
  • Salt & Pepper

Sauce Steps:

  1. Brown the hamburger then remove from pan, leaving rendered fat
  2. Saute the onion and bell peppers and garlic in the hamburger fat until soft
  3. Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, bay leaf, red pepper flakes, and cooked hambrg back to teh pot.  Simmer for an hour, covered.
  4. Add tomato paste, oregano and basil
  5. Simmer for 2 more hours uncovered, stirring occasionally.
  6. Season to taste, then chill overnight.
