Assisting people with disabilities to be a part of RI’s workforce is a area of focus for the RI Developmental Disabilities Council.
For the general population, small business ownership represents the largest market segment of growth employment options in the US.
However, traditional 9-5 jobs may not be the best option for some individuals with disabilities.
Self-employment and the spirit of individual enterprise for people with disabilities represents opportunities for matching an individual’s dreams, interests, hobbies and skills to potential economic assets, earning wages similar to others, and facilitating inclusion and community connections.
The “ RI Self-Employment Business Incubator” provides the scope of support that people with disabilities need by connecting them with individualized technical assistance for business planning as well as a range of resources available from the RI business community.
