Steph Machado joined the Eyewitness News team in June 2015 as a reporter.
She comes by way of Burlington, VT where she was the Statehouse Reporter for the ABC & FOX affiliates, covering the Vermont Legislature, government, and elections. The day Bernie Sanders announced he was running for president, she traveled solo to Washington, D.C. for a sit-down interview with the Senator just moments before he announced his run.
Steph is originally from Ashland, MA, so Rhode Island is like coming home. She has roots in our viewing area, dating back to the early 1900s when her great-grandfather immigrated to Fall River from Italy. She still has family in Southeastern Mass.
Steph graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in 2013, with degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish. In college she produced, reported and anchored for student-run TV station CitrusTV, and interned at WCVB in Boston, ABC News in New York City and WBNG in Binghamton, New York. She also studied in Madrid.
In her free time, Steph hits the beach, tries new restaurants and watches copious amounts of news and other TV. She loves a good book, real Vermont maple syrup and the Syracuse Orange.
