WPRI 12 2019 regional Murrow Award

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has awarded WPRI 12 Eyewitness News two regional 2019 Edward R. Murrow Awards. The Murrow Awards recognize work of the highest quality produced by radio, television and digital news organizations around the world.

“Eyewitness News is honored and humbled to be recognized for these prestigious awards by one of journalism’s leading organizations,” News Director Karen Rezendes said. “This honor reflects the dedication and commitment that our news team brings viewers every day on every platform.”

WPRI 12 Eyewitness News advances to the National Murrow Award competition in the categories of Hard News and Excellence in Sound. Target 12 Investigative Reporter Tim White and Photographer John Villella were named regional winners in the Hard News category for their report titled The Craig Price Confession. Villella and Reporter Walt Buteau also advance to the National Murrow Award competition after being named winners in the regional category of Excellence in Sound for Street Stories: Rhode Island Bucket Drummers.

RTDNA is the world’s largest professional organization exclusively serving the electronic news profession, consisting of news directors, news associates, educators and students. The Radio Television Digital News Association has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow set as a standard for the profession of electronic journalism. National winners, including Large and Small Digital News Organizations and Network News Organizations, will be announced in June.
