EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — WPRI 12 Eyewitness News is expanding its award-winning Target 12 investigative team, reinforcing the station’s commitment to groundbreaking reporting that makes an impact across Southern New England.

For years, the Target 12 Investigators have been the leaders in local investigative journalism in the Providence/New Bedford TV market — exposing wrongdoing, uncovering the truth, and holding the powerful accountable. Target 12’s reporting has changed laws, spurred reforms and won numerous New England Emmy and regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.

WPRI 12 Tuesday announced the following changes as part of its expansion:

Tim White has been named managing editor of the Target 12 investigative team. He will also serve as chief investigative reporter, working with veteran Target 12 Investigators Walt Buteau and Susan Campbell.

Ted Nesi has been named politics and business editor and will continue his work as a Target 12 investigator.

Steph Machado joins Target 12 as a digital and on-air enterprise reporter, focusing on the city of Providence and politics.

Eli Sherman joins WPRI and Target 12 as a digital enterprise reporter, telling in-depth stories through the use of data and innovative visual tools.

Target 12’s behind-the-scenes team will include WPRI Co-Chief Photographer John Villella, Investigative Producers Hannah Dickison and Darren Soens, and Investigative Photographer Jim Hughes.

“Investigative journalism is at the core of what we do at Eyewitness News, and we’re excited to grow our team to better serve our viewers,” said WPRI 12 News Director Karen Rezendes. “By expanding the Target 12 team, we are furthering our commitment to in-depth coverage of stories that impact our community every single day.”

“Target 12 is the trusted source for enterprise reporting in Southern New England,” said Target 12 Managing Editor and Chief Investigative Reporter Tim White. “We are dedicated to serving our community through accurate, in-depth reporting that holds the powerful accountable and uncovers the truth. We value our role as the eyes, ears and voice of the people, and we will continue working tirelessly to maintain their trust. This is an exciting time for Target 12 and all of WPRI.”

“Target 12 is one of the cornerstones of Eyewitness News,” said WPRI 12 Vice President and General Manager Patrick Wholey. “Today’s expansion is another milestone in the long legacy of enterprise reporting here at WPRI 12. This is a time when local news is more important than ever, and all of us at WPRI are proud to continue our tradition of coverage you can count on.”
