Woman critically hurt in Rehoboth house fire

REHOBOTH, Mass. (WPRI) – A woman is in critical condition after escaping from a house fire on Salisbury Street in Rehoboth Saturday morning.

According to police, reports of the fire came in at 5:18 a.m. Callers told dispatchers that a single-family residence was on fire and that a woman had managed to escape to a nearby house but was significantly burned.

Two Rehoboth police officers were the first on-scene. They used portable fire extinguishers to help contain a fire in the living room until firefighters arrived to extinguish it completely.

The victim, a 43-year-old woman, suffered significant burns and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition.

Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire, which was contained to the living room.
