West Bay officials searched for reported missing kayaker in Greenwich Cove

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WPRI) – The East Greenwich Fire Department and neighboring town officials searched for a reported missing kayaker.

The search began around 4:30 p.m. Sunday after the kayaker was reported missing, according to the East Greenwich Fire Department.

Officials at the scene of the search tell Eyewitness News that they received calls about the missing man when he did not show up for work. Family members thought he might’ve gone kayaking, and never came home.

The search lasted for two-and-a-half hours, until about 7 p.m., when the missing man’s family notified officials they had received a call from him, and he was safe. He was never in the water at any point.

Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard and the East Greenwich Police and Fire Departments were joined by the Warwick Police and Fire Departments, North Kingstown Fire Department, and South Kingstown Fire Department to search for the missing person.

Officials staged their search just south of the Harborside Restaurant in East Greenwich.
