WEATHER NOW// We have a very mild but very stormy day ahead, with temperatures approaching 60 this afternoon! We’re expecting 1-2″+ of rain and there’s a risk of damaging wind gusts and power outages. Here’s a look at the current watches, warnings and advisories in effect:
***A FLOOD AVISORY is in effect 5PM. The heaviest of the rain is moving in now and will continue through the afternoon. Localized street flooding in likely in prone areas and may already be occuring.***
***A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect until 1 AM Friday. Very heavy rain, combined with melting snow and ice will lead to street, poor drainage flooding. Local rivers and streams will rapidly rise and some minor river flooding is also possible. Rainfall totals of 1-2″ likely with isolated 3″ amounts ***
***A HIGH WIND WARNING has been issued for southeast coastal communities from 9AM to 7PM due to strong southerly gusts 50-65mph. Communities under the “warning” include Westerly, Narragansett, Jamestown, Newport, Tiverton, Fall River, New Bedford, Block Island and Cape Cod. ***
***HIGH WIND ADVISORY*** Has been issued for inland communitues from 9AM to 5PM due to strong southerly gusts up to 50 mph. ***
**A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY is in effect for late morning due to minor coastal flooding possible around high tide. Splashover onto typically prone roads is possible. ***
Rain ends between 5-7pm from west to east with colder temperatures returning tonight. Watch for patches of black ice for the Friday morning commute. Temperatures will be more seasonable (Highs in the 30s Friday afternoon through the weekend)
