BOSTON (WPRI) — A Warwick man accused of continuing to support Islamic State extremists from behind bars was arraigned Thursday on new charges.

Neither Nicholas Rovinski nor his accused co-conspirator, David Wright, appeared in federal court. Their attorneys both entered not guilty pleas on multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism and conspiracy to provide support to a terror organization.

If convicted, the pair could face life in prison.

According to federal court documents, Rovinski continued terror activity after he was apprehended last year. The grand jury indictment released last week said he pledged support to ISIL on the back of the criminal complaint after he was initially charged last year.

“Since his arrest on June 11, 2015, Rovinski has continued to engage in activity designed to further the conspirators’ plan to commit violent attacks inside the United States.

“In or about August 2015, Rovinski again pledged his allegiance to ISIL and its leader, ‘Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,’ writing his pledge of support on the back of the criminal complaint that had charged him in this case.

“Additionally, while in jail, Rovinski has attempted to recruit people to assist in the execution of their plan to commit violent attacks in the United States and to decapitate non-believers.”

Rovinski and Wright were arrested last June. Authorities say they plotted with Boston terror suspect Usaamah Rahim to behead conservative blogger Pamela Geller, who wasn’t harmed.

The trio allegedly met at a beach near Rovinski’s home on Aspinet Drive in Warwick to discuss their plans.

Rovinski is a graduate of Pilgrim High School. Authorities staked out his home for days before the FBI arrested him.

Rahim was killed June 2 by investigators who say he lunged at them with a military-style knife.
