SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (WPRI) — The boys from Warwick North were eliminated from the Little League World Series on Tuesday by the team from Iowa.

Warwick led Iowa the first four innings 1-0 until Iowa’s Kaiden Dinh parked one to left center to tie the game 1-1 in the fifth. Warwick’s Kenny Rix came back in the sixth with a solo shot to left field – bringing it to 2-1.

But Iowa rallied in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs for a final of 3-2.

Fans of Warwick were disappointed but still glowing on Tuesday about the entire experience. Head coach Ken Rix said he knows his boys learned something valuable from their time at the World Series.

“Sports are meant to teach us life lessons and, you know, I think they learned a bunch,” he said after the game. “Certainly, things don’t always work out the way you expect but hard work and effort count for something and I think my boys realize that and that’s important.”

Warwick was looking to do something the previous Rhode Island state champions were not able to do — win at least two games in Williamsport.

Last year, Cranston Western was eliminated by California, 10-3.

Two years ago, Cumberland American lost a heartbreaking game to Illinois, 8-7, that led to the memorable speech by Coach Dave Belisle.
