Warwick man facing felony charge after shots fired investigation

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Police were called to a home in Warwick Sunday to investigate a report of shots fired.

Officers responded to 3260 West Shore Road for the complaint around 12:20 p.m. and witnesses told police shots were fired in a nearby yard.

Police said an investigation revealed a firearm was discharged at the scene, but no injuries or property damage were reported.

The suspect, identified as Michael Gustafson, of Warwick, was taken into custody.

Police confirmed he is facing a felony charge of carrying a weapon while under the influence and a misdemeanor charge of firing in a compound area.

According to public court records, Gustafson has a lengthy rap sheet and is a probation violator.

Police said an investigation is ongoing.
