WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – Warwick firefighters quickly extinguished a fire in a car dealership Sunday morning.

The call came in from a passerby shortly before 8 a.m., Battalion Chief Robert Parmenter said.

A fire engine responded from just a short way down the street and its crew immediately spotted heavy smoke coming from the front of the building at Fred’s Autohaus at 2157 West Shore Road.

Parmenter said that there was heavy fire in the front corner of the building, specifically in the office and waiting area.

Nobody was in the building at the time, and nobody was injured.

Firefighters had to contend with some slick streets and surfaces, as well as tight quarters once they got there: the small parking lot was full of vehicles and firefighters could only get access through the front door.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause, which Parmenter said caused extensive damage to the office.
