Warrants indicate there were other suspects in Woonsocket murder

News

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A pair of search warrants filed by Woonsocket police indicate investigators had at least four other persons of interest in the murder of an 81-year-old woman before two men were charged with the killing.

Tyler Grenon, 23, of Attleboro, and Matthew Dusseault, 20, of Woonsocket, were both charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy charges last Wednesday, more than two years after Constance Gauthier’s body was found in the bedroom of her home.

Grenon’s family lives next door to the victim and Tyler had peered in her window, spotting the body under a mattress, after what was later determined to be a stabbing.

A warrant filed last April to search a different individual’s phone indicates Gauthier was stabbed more than 60 times with two different knives in the head, neck and upper body.

Her death was believed to have occurred up to 18 hours before her body was discovered.

According to the document, “the scene showed an image of a violent struggle as chairs were overturned, dresser [drawers] removed and bedding tossed about in a ransacked room.”

The other warrant, also filed in April, was aimed at searching a Woonsocket triple-decker for the possible murder weapon and other evidence.

The document details how a woman told investigators she called police this year after seeing a news story that marked two years since Gauthier was murdered.

The affidavit includes allegations from the woman’s daughter, who told her mother three men and a woman went to Gauthier’s home around the time of the murder to rob her.

The woman said one of the men had come home “covered in blood.”

According to the document, she said after the group went into Gauthier’s home,  two of the men “ended up stabbing her” and covering her body with a mattress.

None of the individuals named in the affidavit are charged in connection with the case.

Woonsocket Police Detective Capt. Michael Lemoine would not comment on the weapon. He said detectives are still running down leads and that more charges are possible.

Neither Grenon nor Dusseault are named in either of the warrants Both are due back in court next Wednesday.
