NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) – Walmart has launched a new mobile app that allows customers to pay with their smartphones.
‘Walmart Pay’ is built into the Walmart app and the company says it will make transactions easier for customers.
The new way to pay connects to credit cards, debit cards, and gift cards for all of your purchases at the retail giant.
Ashley Vivieros is the manager of the North Attleboro Walmart location.
“I think it all comes down to convenience. People are busy, they look for simplification,” she said.
Walmart introduced ‘Walmart Pay’ in test markets months ago, and now the mobile pay system is available in every Walmart store in the country.
“When New England rolled out this program, we saw a 45% increase in usage of Walmart Pay,” said Vivieros.
When asked if your information is safe, Vivieros said, “everything is protected behind Walmart firewalls.”
“At no time is any financial or personal information exchanged with our register system so it’s absolutely safe. The other this is the info is not stored on your phone, it’s all stored behind firewalls,” she explained.
Walmart does not accept other digital wallets like Apple Pay or Android Pay.
