BRISTOL, Conn. (WPRI) — The Cranston Western Little Leaguers moved one step closer to the World Series in dramatic fashion Friday.

David Marchetti hit a home run in the 7th inning to lift Cranston over Connecticut 3-2, advancing the Rhode Island representatives to tomorrow’s game against Vermont.

Now 2-1 in the playoffs, if Cranston beats Vermont, they’ll move on to the New England championship Sunday against New Hampshire.

The winner of the regional championship secures a spot in the 2015 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn.

Cranston fell to Connecticut 3-2 in their first game, then evened their record with an 11-4 win over Massachusetts Thursday.

Saturday’s game is scheduled for 11 a.m.
