Voluntary walnut recall from Stop&Shop

(WPRI) — Stop & Shop has issued a voluntary recall on Woodstock Walnut Halves & Pieces.

The product may potentially be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which is a common organism found in nature.

Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease.

The symptoms include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. The disease can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weekend immune systems.

The company has not received any reports of illnesses to date.

Customers who have purchased these products should discard it immediately and bring their receipt to Stop & Shop for a full refund.
