NEW YORK (WPRI) — The URI Rams came up short against Dayton in the Atlantic 10 tournament semifinals Saturday, losing to the Flyers by four points.
The Flyers’ Jordan Sibert scored six points in the final five minutes to help Dayton slip past the the third-seeded Rams 56-52.
The loss ends URI’s hopes for an NCAA Tournament bid, but the team is expected to play in the NIT Tournament beginning this week.
E.C. Matthews was the Rams’ lead scorer Saturday with 16 points.
The 22 wins for Rhode Island this season matches the amount in Coach Dan Hurley’s two previous seasons combined. The future is bright for the Rams with two freshmen and two sophomores starting on Saturday.
