PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Going to the Super Bowl is a once in a lifetime opportunity — if you can afford it.

Football fans who are interested in traveling to Arizona for the big game between the Patriots and the Seahawks should be prepared to open their wallets wide, because the cost of attending the game is averaging between $7,500 and $10,000 for two people.

“The good news is there’s plenty of availability, plenty of tickets, there’s plenty of car rentals, hotels. The only thing you have to have is plenty of money,” AAA Travel Expert Carl Richardson said.

Eyewitness News found some tickets going for as low as $2,600 – and those are the nosebleed seats. Hotel prices are also skyrocketing and some are requiring a three-night minimum.

The best way to travel in this case is to find a Super Bowl package that includes tickets, airfare, transportation, parking and a hotel.

But according to Richardson, there as some ways to cut corners. “Don’t need airfare, staying with friends, season ticket holders, that’s where you pick up the advantages,” he said.

If you are planning to make the trip to see the Pats, we recommend finding travel packages that include “transfers,” because rental car and parking rates for the weekend are tripling.
