COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — A Sunday afternoon fire engulfed a trailer, two cars, and spread to some dry brush nearby.

No residents were injured as a result of this moving fire on Poppin John Lane near Coventry High School.

Neighbor Gail McCormick was the first to call police, who then called fire crews to the scene.

“I thought it was children doing fireworks and I look out my bedroom window and the front porch was fully engulfed,” said McCormick.

Cpt. Mark Blanding of the Coventry Fire Department described what he saw arriving on scene.

“We had a fully involved structure, about half of it was gone,” he said.

Cpt. Blanding said the fire spread to nearby brush due to the strong winds at the time.

The Red Cross is assisting three residents affected by the fire.
