COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — A traffic stop in Coventry over the weekend led to a large drug bust and charges against a West Warwick man, police announced Tuesday.

Coventry police said they arrested Christopher Whalen, 35, after pulling him over for speeding on Tiogue Avenue early Saturday morning. Officers found more than a pound of marijuana in Whalen’s car, according to police, along with THC edibles and oils and nearly $10,000 in cash.

Following Whalen’s arrest, police said detectives from both Coventry and West Warwick searched Whalen’s Pawtuxet Terrace home. There, detectives discovered more than four pounds of marijuana, hundreds of additional THC edibles, dozens of methadone pills, digital scales, ledgers, and another $34,541 in cash, police said.

Whalen is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Kent County Court.
