FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — A toy drive was held at St. Joseph’s Church in Fall River on Sunday to benefit the children impacted by Tuesday’s devastating fire at Four Winds Apartments.
Several tables were filled up with toys that will soon be distributed to families.
Father Jay Mello said the drive was organized in hopes of replacing some of the Christmas gifts that were destroyed by the fire, which displaced 80 people.
The 36-unit building was torn down in order to completely the fire, destroying everything. None of the residents had the opportunity to collect any of their possessions.
Right now, other donation drives to benefit fire victims continue in Fall River.
The Firefighter’s Wives Association said it is still accepting gift cards and monetary donations at the Fall River fire station headquarters.
Anyone who would like to donate pet food can do so at the PetSmart locations in Fall River and Swansea or at Forever Paws Animal Shelter at 300 Lynwood Street in Fall River.
The city will also hold another multi-agency resource fair to help victims at Government Center on Tuesday from 1-7 p.m
