TIVERTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Tiverton police are asking for your help after several cases of vandalism around town this week.
Police said someone has been putting up graffiti with the tag “AJAX” popping up more than once.
Near the Sakonnet River at Grinnell’s Beach in Tiverton people have noticed the unsightly artwork on the old Seaside gas station.
“There’s no need to make something look trashy,” said Eldon Barrett.
Barrett said he noticed the graffiti out of place, since he was only used to seeing graffiti in bigger cities like New Bedford or Providence.
Tiverton police put out the word on their Facebook page asking for the public’s help to find the vandal who tagged the old gas station in the last week.
Only three miles away a rock on Bay Street the same word was tagged.
“It’s just a lack of respect for property,” said Barrett. “It bothers me, it really does.”
The abandoned Seaside gas station on this otherwise beautiful shore has been closed for years.
Now, the police department hopes to catch whoever decided to leave their mark on town property. If you know anything about who’s been vandalizing the town, call Tiverton Police at (401) 625-6722.
