REHOBOTH, MASS. (WPRI) — Police are investigating an early-morning rollover crash that sent three people to the hospital Thursday.
Police say the driver of the car lost control while rounding a bend in the roadway near 109 Winthrop Street (Route 44). The vehicle drove off the roadway into the woods and down into a ditch. This caused the car to roll over.
Police said three people were in the car at the time. They said the driver was sitting on the guardrail when officers arrived on scene and crews had to help a female passenger out of the car.
Police said the backseat passenger was asleep at the time of the crash and was thrown from the car on impact, sending that person 30 yards.
Police said all three victims were transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation of the rollover is ongoing, but police say excessive speed was likely a factor in the crash.
