COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — Coventry police were called to the scene of a fight on Magnolia Lane around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
When officers arrived, people started to run from the scene. Authorities say three men got into a minivan, and drove off. As they fled, an officer was struck by the side mirror on the van. That officer suffered minor injuries.
According to Lieutenant Ben Sedam with the Coventry police department, the three suspects, Matthew Laroche, 21, of Richmond, Demetrius Stewart, 26, of West Warwick, and Ramsey Shadeck, 22, of North Kingstown, were arrested in Coventry about an hour later.
Police tell Eyewitness News the men were found not far from the scene of the initial fight.
Laroche was arrested on five charges, including two assault charges on a police officer and three driving offenses. He was arraigned and released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail and is due back in district court in one month.
Stewart was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct and released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail. He is due back in district court early next month.
Finally, Shadeck was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. He was arraigned and bail was set, but he’s being held at the ACI as a probation violator from a previous disorderly conduct charge.
