Teenager killed after being hit by car in Warwick

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – Police in Warwick say a teenager has died after being hit by a car on West Shore Road around 7:15 p.m. Friday.

Sgt. John Kelly said that the victim, 18-year-old Kurtis Lee Prosser of Warwick, was crossing the road when he was struck by a car heading east on West Shore in the right lane.

Prosser died shortly after midnight at Rhode Island Hospital.

Kelly said that no charges have been filed against the driver, and that weather conditions, poor lighting and Prosser wearing dark clothing contributed to the crash. There was no evidence of excessive speed, distracted driving or impaired driving, he said.

The Warwick Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate, and anyone with other information should contact Sgt. Kelly at 401-468-4293.
