Suspect sought in Verizon store break-in


SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — Smithfield police are working to identify a person caught on camera breaking into a cell phone store.

The break-in happened Friday at the Verizon Wireless Store located in The Crossing shopping center on Putnam Pike. Surveillance footage released by Smithfield police shows the suspect smashing a hole in the glass storefront, then running inside. The suspect reappears moments later, crawls through the hole in the glass, and runs off.

Police said the suspect stole several phones from a display in the front of the store.

Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call Smithfield Police at (401) 231-2500.
