PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have a suspect in custody after a shooting early Monday evening.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. near Douglas Avenue and Lancashire Street.

According to Maj. David Lapatin, the victim’s girlfriend was in an argument with several people at the intersection. The victim then joined the argument, and Lapatin said the suspect pulled out a gun and fired several shots.

Lapatin said the victim was struck by at least one bullet. It is unclear if he was shot multiple times. The shooter then fled on foot and was eventually apprehended after a foot chase.

The shooter, later identified as Alexandro Brown, 20, is facing multiple charges, including felony assault.

Lapatin said the 25-year-old victim is in surgery. It is unclear how serious the victim’s injuries are, or if the victim was targeted.
