State Police investigate Central Falls ballots

News

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) — State police are confirming an investigation into mail ballots from a primary to fill a vacant city council seat in Central Falls.

Police Capt. Christopher Dicomitis said the state Board of Elections requested that investigators go to the city to look at some possible issues related to Thursday’s election. He said it was too early to provide any other details.

Former state Rep. Kenneth Vaudreuil and former Mayor Thomas Lazieh were the top vote-getters among four candidates in the nonpartisan primary for the Ward 5 seat that became vacant when Tammi Johnson resigned last month.

Vaudreuil and Lazieh will now compete in a Feb. 19 election to fill the seat.
