PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) — The 5th Annual Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic got underway Sunday night in Portsmouth.
The stars were out at Carnegie Abbey Clubhouse as co-hosts Jeffrey Osborne and Earvin “Magic” Johnson kicked off the festivities.
Osborne, a Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter and Rhode Island native, has been bringing his famous friends to his home state to raise money for local charities.
Celebrities expected to participate include Smokey Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Chris Tucker, Julius Erving, Ty Law, Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd, and WPRI 12’s own Patrick Little and Michaela Johnson.
To date, more than $600,000 has been distributed to nonprofits that seek to bring music and arts back to public schools and provide safe, enriching environments for families in need.
The event continues Monday with the Celebrity Softball Game at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket followed by the golf tournament Tuesday at Carnegie Abbey.
Tickets are still available for the softball game. They cost $13 for reserved box seats, $9 for general admission, and $6 for children 12 and under and senior citizens. Fans can also buy VIP passes that include a pre-game barbecue with opportunities for autographs and photos with the celebrities.
