Spring snow, wind make for strange weather day in Southern New England

Trees down on West Ironside Road - Burrillville_284201

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A spring storm brought snow squalls and high winds Sunday.

The snow started early and accumulated in some spots. Some squalls, like one in Warwick, brought bands of wind-driven snow and soft hail.

In between the snow, sunshine helped melt away much of the snow in some areas.

The strong winds coupled with wet snow on tree branches led to some isolated power outages. As of 7:50 p.m., almost all outages were rectified, according to our Power Outage Database.

Religious services and education were impacted in several communities. See our Pinpoint Closings Network for an updated list of closings and parking bans.

West Ironside Road in Burrillville was closed after two trees came down.

The Pinpoint Weather Team says it’s possible we also see several inches of accumulating snow from late Monday morning into Monday evening. At this point, it’s a borderline situation in terms of how much the snow accumulates on the roads.
